Four-wave interference sensors combined with ultra-high-speed cameras can achieve frame rates of up to 1KHz

Aerooptics effect refers to the change of phase and propagation path of light wave caused by the inhomogeneity of air density distribution in flow field during reentry of high speed aircraft, ballistic missiles and spacecraft. This effect can affect the performance of the optical equipment on the aircraft, for example, possibly reducing the resolution of the imaging system. In order to ensure that the design and performance of high-speed aircraft meet the requirements, it is very important to detect and quantify the aerodynamic optical effect effectively. The FIS4 four-wave interference sensor combined with the ultra-high speed camera can achieve a frame rate of up to 1KHz, which provides a powerful technical means for real-time monitoring of pneumatic flow field. This combined technique can help researchers gain a detailed understanding of the effects of flow fields on optical propagation and optimize vehicle designs to mitigate the negative effects of aerooptics.
